What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?
Implant-supported dentures are a full arch of replacement teeth that snaps securely onto dental implants placed in your jawbone — which is why they're also called snap-in or snap-on dentures. Instead of resting on your gums and relying on adhesive, the denture locks onto two or more titanium implants that act as artificial tooth roots.
You still remove them for cleaning, like a conventional denture, but while they're in they stay put — you can bite into an apple, laugh, and speak without ever thinking about slipping. For patients who want a permanent, non-removable option, full mouth dental implants are the fixed alternative.
How Many Implants Do You Need?
Most implant-supported dentures are secured by two to four implants per arch. Two implants can stabilize a lower denture dramatically, while four implants spread the bite force more evenly and add stability for the upper arch, where bone is typically softer.
The right number for you depends on your jawbone density, which arch we're restoring, and how much stability you want. During your consultation we use 3D imaging to map your bone and recommend the exact number — and if bone loss is a concern, bone grafting can rebuild the support your implants need.

The Dental Implant Treatment Process
Dental implants are placed in areas of your jawbone that have the most density and volume, usually in the front portion of your jaw. Depending on your unique case, your denture will be secured to these implants with either a ball or bar attachment and can be removable for cleaning or permanently attached. Once your surgery is complete, you’ll need three or more months to heal and for the implants to integrate securely with your bone. During your healing phase, you’ll typically receive a temporary denture to wear until your final denture is complete. In many cases, we’re able to repurpose your existing denture to secure it to your new implants.
